Square Dance Terms and Definitions

Taminations - An app for your phone or computer that animates a cartoon like top-down view of dancers moving around the floor. It also has the definition of each move. It is a helpful tool to learn the square dance moves.

North Shore Squares - Website with short vidios showing how to perform different square dance moves. The caller explains how each move is done and the dances demonstrate how to do them. Each video shows one move per video. (See examples below) MS and Plus Link

Kids Learning to Dance - Youtube of Kids learning to Square Dance in a school gymnasium.

Lincoln Hills Squares - Local Square Dance Club in Lincoln Hills. They dance MS and Plus on Monday afternoon (1:00 to 4:00), and Advanced on Tuesday (3:15 to 5:00)

Mavericks - A local Square Dance club in Roseville. They dance on Monday night at the Plus level but they hold beginner classes on Wednesday nights. They dance a Royer Park which is a Veterns hall that holds dances for many Square Dance clubs. There are also round dancing dances and classes.

Associated Square Dancers of Superior California (ASDSC)asdsc.org/ - Square Dance organization for the larger Sacramento area. Has calendar of most Clubs and events in our region. Great resource for what is happening and where to dance.

CallerLab - The International orgination of square dance callers formed in 1975. It is the main resource for all things related to square dancing. CallerLab sets the square dance levels and the moves in each level. They also create the definitions for all the moves.

Dance Socks - these are bands of fabric that slip over tennis shoes so that your feet can slide on a dance floor. If you find that your shoes are not moving freely on the floor you may want to give this a try. There are many types of dance socks this is just one example. So look around and find the ones you like in the colors you like.
